The Caraga State University (CSU) will officially open its School of Medicine and Doctor of Medicine Program for this academic year.

CSU President Rolyn Daguil led the presentation of the university’s 35 pioneer students of the School of Medicine in a press conference here on Friday afternoon.

In his message, Daguil highlighted the significance of opening the medical school, especially in addressing the limited access to quality medical education and the urgent shortage of qualified healthcare professionals in the region.

“The establishment of the CSU’s School of Medicine will address these gaps to resolve them,” Daguil said.

Meanwhile, the CSU said the medical school is supported by distinguished faculty from top health institutions and medical schools, and strengthened by partnerships with hospitals and communities.

“The program is designed to combine academic rigor with practical, real-world clinical training,” the CSU said in a statement Friday.

The CSU began efforts in 2020 to establish a medical school, aiming to produce competent and compassionate physicians.

Under Daquil’s leadership, the work to fulfill the requirements set by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) progressed and was ultimately completed.

The CSU has received backing from local leaders, the Department of Health, and various hospitals in their effort to establish the first medical school.

The CHED en banc approved the establishment of the CSU medical school in January this year. (PNA)
