Raising the beauty and brains of Filipinos on the international stage, two candidates from the Philippines were able to be crowned at the Runway Model Universe International in Turkey.

On October 15, the Runway Model Universe held its annual event in Istanbul, Turkey, to crown its next Miss and Mister Runway Model 2023 out of its 30 candidates from across the world.

Besting of these candidates, Zamboanga local Zilanni Eve Rojas clinched the title for the Miss Runway Model 2023 and Best in National Costume, Miss Social Media, Best in Swimwear, Best in Gown, and Best in Avant Garde.

Mel John Carcido, on the other hand, who is a Batangueño, was named the first runner-up for its male division.

In May 2023, Rojas and Carcido were selected among the Filipino participants to compete for this year’s runway model.

Before the pageant, Rojas was taking her path as a pilot but was passionate about being part of the industry as she had liked modeling since her childhood, while Carcido was already working on his pageantry career as his siblings were also exposed to modeling.

Disclosing their win during the international pageant, the two winning candidates shared that their training for this was as difficult as what other candidates experienced; hence, they expressed their gratitude to Filipinos who supported them during the competition.

Runway Model Universe is an international pageant that was established by a Canadian foundation in 2022 and has the goal of gathering models and fashion designers to showcase their talents and personal values among individuals.

Just like other beauty competitions, the winners of this pageantry were built to come along with the organization’s advocacy, which is to help and inspire people from across the world.
