The city government will join other local governments and stakeholders in a mass bamboo planting activity here, hoping to make the Guinness Book of World Records for the most bamboo planted in one hour

City Administrator Roy Hilario Raagas said the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Bukidnon initiated the activity.

“About 10 hectares in Sitio Pamalihi, Barangay Pagatpat, will be set aside (for this activity),” Raagas said during Monday’s flag-raising ceremony.

The bamboo planting activity coincides with the annual observance of Philippine Bamboo Month and World Bamboo Day on Sept. 18.

The City Agricultural Productivity Office and the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO) will spearhead the activity.

Raagas said a team from Guinness will validate the result.

“More details of the activity will be disclosed in the coming weeks by the DOST-Northern Mindanao, the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office and CLENRO,” he said. (PNA)
