Persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) under the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) have started receiving booster doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

As of Monday, 6,245 out of the 27,879 fully vaccinated PDLS have received the additional shots while 19,345 are still waiting for their second doses, according to data from the BuCor Directorate for Health and Welfare Services.

In the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City, 3,341 of 3,283 PDLs have complete primary doses, with 3,007 also with booster doses.

The BuCor runs the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City, CIW in Mandaluyong, Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Mindoro Occidental, San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm in Zamboanga CIty, Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Palawan, Leyte Regional Prison in Abuyog town, and Davao Prison and Penal Farm and CIW in Davao del Norte.

There are about 48,500 PDLs in BuCor-managed facilities.

Inmates at the NBP’s Reception and Diagnostic Center, which orients newly committed prisoners, have also started receiving booster shots. (PNA)
