The police chief of Bicol on Friday recognized the extraordinary achievements and capabilities of women, particularly the uniformed police officers in the region.

Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon, Police Regional Office 5 (PRO-Bicol) chief, led the kickoff ceremony of the month-long observance of Women’s Month with the theme “Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas: Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, Patunayan” (Equal Society in the New Philippines: Recognize Women’s Capabilities) at their headquarters here.

“We gathered today to celebrate the accomplishments of women who have shown unwavering resilience, strength, and courage in their respective fields. Women who have broken barriers, shattered stereotypes, and paved the way for a more inclusive and equitable society,” Dizon said in his message.

He urged everyone to create a society in which the talents and abilities of women are celebrated and recognized.

“I call upon everyone, not only women but also men, to work towards building a “Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas” where the capabilities of women are acknowledged, respected and valued. Let us all be advocates for gender equality and stand in solidarity with the continued fight for women’s rights and empowerment,” he said.

Women’s Month is celebrated nationwide as part of a worldwide observance. International Women’s Day is celebrated March 8.

The event at PRO5 commenced with a Mass, followed by a Zumba dance session participated in by female personnel from the regional police headquarters and the Albay Police Provincial Office.

A fun “stiletto run” for male participants in heels was also held, symbolizing the solidarity of men in acknowledging the pivotal role of women as trailblazers in society.

Valuable role

The Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPRU) also paid tribute to the role of women in nation-building.

In a statement Friday, Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito Galvez Jr. said the strength, excellence and determination of Filipino women serves as the foundation of the nation.

“Tunay kayong huwaran ng kabutihan sa loob at labas ng ating mga tahanan. Kaya naman, nais naming ipaabot ang aming buong-pusong pasasalamat sa inyong mga kontribusyon noon, ngayon at sa hinaharap, lalo na sa pagsulong ng tunay at pangmatagalang kapayapaan sa ating mahal na bayan (You are indeed models of greatness inside and outside the household. Because of this, we extended our heartfelt gratitude to your past, present and future contributions, especially in the pursuit of genuine and lasting peace in our beloved nation,” he added. (PNA)
