Bataan logged a record high daily tally of 102 new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases, Governor Albert Garcia announced on Tuesday.

The new infections increased the province’s tally to 1,262 with 652 recoveries and 20 deaths.

Citing report of the Provincial Health Office as of 11:30 p.m. on Monday, Garcia said 98 of the 102 new infections came from Mariveles where there are almost 100 locators of the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB) employing more than 40,000 workers.

FAB has said two of its companies were under lockdown while contact tracing workers affected by the virus.

Garcia said contact tracing indicated that 46 of the new cases who had come in close contact with those found positive for Covid-19 are from Mariveles.

The 36 new infections are in-patients in a hospital in the province and 34 of them are also from Mariveles with one each from Balanga City and Limay.

The PHO said 15,503 have undergone Covid-19 tests with 14,020 tested negative and 221 still waiting for the results. (PNA)
