Tourist arrivals in this highly urbanized city grew by 4.8 percent in 2025, generating PHP6.55 billion in tourism receipts, data from the City Tourism Development Office showed Tuesday.

The city hosted 873,573 local and foreign visitors last year, up from 833,345 in 2024. Domestic tourists increased by 5.11 percent to 813,625, while foreign arrivals rose by 2.21 percent to 60,525.

Attendees of meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions soared by 77 percent to 279,200. Peak arrivals were recorded in October, November, and December, driven largely by the annual MassKara Festival held every October.

Mayor Greg Gasataya said he recently met with the City Tourism Council to seek stakeholder feedback on improving support for the sector.

“Insights from the council members help us make our tourism better for everyone,” Gasataya said in a statement.

Harold Geronimo, vice president for public relations and media affairs at Megaworld and a council member, welcomed the city government’s focus on tourism.

“It has a ripple effect on local businesses, hotels, and local artisans. We are excited about the programs and eager to contribute ideas to support our city’s progress,” Geronimo said.

He noted that challenges remain in transportation costs and infrastructure, but city officials and private partners are collaborating to address these concerns. (PNA)
