From TikTok to Miss Universe Philippines, Ayn Bernos teamed up with fellow content creators Rica Salomon and Kai Javier launched Kayu Beauty last February 19.

Kayu Beauty creates beauty products to highlight morena skin and other skin tones’ beauty concerns. Their products can be every morena’s daily targets and lifestyles because they bring out the beauty in them.

Salomon, the group’s professional makeup artist; Javier, who is known for giving makeup reviews; and Bernos herself, who is known for breaking the norms when it comes to beauty stands and uplifts the space of morenas both on social media and in society, are the people behind the beauty brand.

In a TikTok video, Bernos made clear that Kayu is based on the word kayumanggi, which is the Filipino term for the color brown, which is the skin color of the majority of Pinays.

Since then, Pinays and other Asians have been taught through films and stories that having lighter skin makes you look more beautiful, and this is what Kayu Beauty wishes to change.

Bernos also stated that she wants to continue her advocacy for colorism awareness, which is why they decided to launch a makeup line with Salomon and Javier. She also revealed that morenas have always stood behind every beauty product commercial, while fair-skinned women have always stood in front. She desired for the morenas to have a place and space that they all deserved.

Bernos also clarified that Kayu Beauty is not only for morenas, but for everyone. Kayu Beauty has received positive feedback from netizens, and as of writing, their Beauty Box has already sold out.
