The city government will install more traffic signs in the Kapampangan dialect along the major roads here.

The Angeles City Traffic Development Office on Tuesday received a donation of Kapampangan traffic signages from Lalamove that will be put up around MacArthur Highway and Fil-Am Friendship Circumferential Road.

Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr., said in a social media post the move is part of the city government’s efforts to preserve and revitalize the dialect while maintaining the safety of pedestrians and motorists.

Some of the signages written in Kapampangan are “Báwal páparáda kéni” (no parking), “Báwal lúngub kéni” (do not enter), “Mamye dálan” (give way), “Báwal Íng búbusína” (no blowing of horn), “Báwal Íng lilípat kéni” (no crossing), “Báwal maglibutad ring motorsiklu, traysikel, e-bike, bisikleta” (motorcycles, tricycles, e-bikes, bicycles are not allowed in the innermost lanes), and “Báwal sálingku king kailî” (no left turn).

Last year, the city government initially put up 20 Kapampangan traffic signages on the major roads. These were installed beside existing English signages by members of the Angeles City Tourism Office in cooperation with the Angeles City Traffic Development Office.

The move is the first-ever in the city, as well as in Pampanga province-wide, pursuant to a city ordinance establishing Kapampangan as an official dialect of Angeles City and institutionalizing its use in all sectors, alongside existing national and official languages. (PNA)
