President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Wednesday led the ceremonial activation of a digital platform developed by the Teacher Education Council (TEC) to advance teachers’ professional development and career progression.
During a ceremony, Marcos activated the My Teacher Education Commons (MyTec) portal, a shared digital platform aimed at providing teachers with access to professional learning resources, development materials, learning opportunities, and career-stage-responsive learning pathways.
“With the launch of MyTEC, we are creating more opportunities for teachers to continue to learn and to grow throughout their careers,” he said.
“We want our teachers to have better preparation even before they enter the classroom, to have meaningful opportunities to continue learning throughout their careers. Because we ask much from our teachers, we must also give much in return.”
The MyTec portal is envisioned as a space where teachers can identify learning pathways aligned with their career stage, strengthen their instructional practice and classroom assessment, and develop leadership and mentoring capabilities.
Marcos emphasized the important role of teachers in strengthening the country’s education system and creating a safe environment for learners.
He attributed the significant strides in Philippine education to teachers, citing the country’s progress in the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) as “solid proof.”
“It is always a pleasure to be here with the teachers and our partners who help make learning possible for millions of Filipino children. When we speak of improving Philippine education, it is essential that we speak of supporting and strengthening the capabilities of the teachers who make learning possible,” Marcos said.
He, however, acknowledged the gaps in teachers’ training and career development.
The President assured the teachers that their hard work does not go unnoticed, reaffirming his administration’s continued support for their professional growth.
“Our teachers set the standard. You carry the responsibility of preparing our children for a future that continues to change. Today, we recognize those who are helping to raise that standard (even) higher,” Marcos said.
“The least that we, in government, can do is to support you in that vocation; to make you more professional; to make you more knowledgeable; to keep you learning, as well about the new techniques, the new ways, and the new strategies in which we can teach our children.”
He also called on the parents, communities, and other partners to continue working together to make schools “more secure and more responsive to the needs of our learners.”
“Because teachers do more than just teach lessons. For many of our children, they become second parents in school, helping create environments where learners feel safe, supported, and cared for. This also means strengthening school safety and student support,” Marcos said. (PNA)
