Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Renato Solidum, Jr. is advocating anticipatory governance, saying this would not just boost preparedness but also help improve lives.

In a news release on Tuesday, Solidum cited several concerns where anticipatory governance is crucial, such as the increasing commodity prices.

This, he said, underscores the need for science-based, technology-driven solutions that can strengthen food production, improve supply chain efficiency and anticipate disruptions before they become crises.

Second is addressing food security, which, he said, requires foresight-driven action.

“We have to invest on precision agriculture, AI (artificial intelligence) and predictive analytics, remote sensing and satellite technologies, smart logistics and supply-chain systems,” Solidum said.

Data-driven foresight is likewise essential for sustainable energy, to forecast future demands and diversify energy sources, he said.

The DOST chief also calls for more investment on renewable energy technologies, smart grids, expansive energy storage systems and energy-efficient mobility infrastructures.

Finally, Solidum said anticipatory governance could also boost resilience, which requires leveraging digital innovation to understand risks, proactively focusing on prevention and preparedness, and utilizing forecasts and predictive analytics.

“In the end, our impact is not measured by the technologies we deploy, but by the people whose lives are made safer, better, and more secure because of them,” he added. (PNA)
