The municipality of Linamon in Lanao del Norte is being eyed as Northern Mindanao’s next diving tourism destination.

In a statement on Tuesday, Lanao del Norte Governor Mohamad Khalid Dimaporo said that the development of tourism dive spots in Linamon is being undertaken by the Provincial Tourism Office and the Department of Tourism (DOT) 10 (Northern Mindanao).

“We conducted a dive exploration to assess potential sites and opportunities for marine tourism development here in Lanao del Norte,” he said.

Since May, DOT-10 officials have been in discussions with officials in Linamon and the province to identify key areas within the municipality’s coastal barangays.

Key considerations being explored in developing the municipality as a premier diving destination are the sustainability of tourism-based investments and local employment, which will also encourage the construction of public infrastructure.

For more than six years, DOT-10 has intensified its diving tourism under the flagship “Dive NorthMin” and has already launched a diving festival to attract tourists. (PNA)
