The Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) distributed multi-functional power sprayers worth almost PHP15 million to 137 sugarcane block farms in Negros Island as part of the government’s farm mechanization support funded under the Sugar Industry Development Act.

Administrator Pablo Luis Azcona and Board Member David Andrew Sanson led the turnover to officers and representatives of the block farm associations at the SRA-La Granja Agricultural Research and Extension Center (LGAREC) here Tuesday.

In his message, Azcona acknowledged the impact of the fuel crisis on the cost of fertilizer for sugarcane production, which has almost doubled in recent months, as well as the effects of pests and typhoons on sugarcane farms.

“We are trying to help the sugarcane farmers. We will provide you all the possible equipment that you can use on the fertilizer side,” he added. “The SRA remains at the forefront of delivering necessary assistance while prioritizing the welfare and needs of farmers and stakeholders.”

The SRA farm mechanization initiative aims to improve efficiency in farm operations, pest management, and crop protection efforts among sugarcane-producing communities.

Azcona said farmers can use the knapsack power sprayers in applying beneficial micro-organisms to improve production even with less fertilizer and in spraying fungus to address the red-striped soft scale insect infestation.

A total of 229 units of 4-in-1 knapsack power sprayer, which costs PHP64,990 each, were distributed to the block farm associations.

Each unit is designed for multi-purpose agricultural application, capable of handling granule and liquid formulations while functioning as a mister blower.

Block farm beneficiaries from 2016 to 2026 received 193, while 28 units were assigned to SRA mill district offices as standby equipment.

Eight units were endorsed to the LGAREC research laboratory for field operations and station-based research activities.

Sanson called for stronger cooperation and unity among sugarcane farmers in supporting the programs and initiatives of the SRA and the government.

After the ceremonial turnover, expert technicians from All Certified Equipment Trading Corp. conducted a hands-on operator’s training session to ensure that block farm beneficiaries and SRA personnel can maximize the utility and lifespan of the equipment. (PNA)
