The province of Misamis Occidental vowed to protect tourists visiting key destinations in the province.

In a statement on Wednesday, Governor Henry Oaminal Sr. said that aside from the active presence of law enforcers, tourists will benefit from relatively affordable food and accommodation prices.

He noted that tourism facilities operated by the provincial government will have lower rates, especially at the newly opened Asenso Misamis Occidental Recreation and Adventure Park (AMORAP).

“Our consultants said a night’s stay in other similar (posh) villas usually costs PHP40,000, but we are offering it here for PHP10,000,” he said.

Oaminal said residents of the province will receive a 50 percent discount as well.

This week, the province opened AMORAP, branded as the “Maldives in Mindanao,” as part of ongoing efforts to promote tourism and support the local economy.

The province also hosts the ongoing Miss Universe Philippines organization’s major events from April 22-26, with Oaminal planning to appoint the winners as tourism ambassadors. (PNA)
