Secondary learners from select public schools in Antique are recipients of Project Manok (chicken) that will give them hands-on training and livelihood.

The first poultry facility for Project Manok (Maximizing Access to Nurturing Opportunities for Knowledge) at Egaña National High School in Sibalom, Antique received a seed capital of PHP600,000 for a poultry production project, according to the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Antique on Friday.

It will be managed by learners under their technical-vocational subject.

Aside from learning poultry production, learners can also acquire entrepreneurship skills, for they will be selling the chicken to the Sibalom Livestock and Poultry-raisers Association (Silpra).

Silpra needs at least 5,000 heads of chicken per day for its store.

The second project will be implemented at Buhang National High School in the municipality of Hamtic.

The project is a partnership among the DepEd Schools Division of Antique, Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Office of Antique Lone District Rep. Rep. Antonio Agapito Legarda Jr. (PNA)
