The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is set to upgrade its digital infrastructure in the province of Misamis Occidental to support tourism growth.

During the “Let’s Talk MisOcc” program on Wednesday, Kenneth Asuncion, DICT – Misamis Occidental officer, announced that in partnership with the provincial government, the agency intends to soon implement the Provincial Broadband Plan, aimed at improving connectivity at tourist destinations.

“Aligned with the direction of the province, we are working with them (provincial government) so that our tourism areas in Misamis Occidental have connectivity,” he said.

Asuncion said Governor Henry Oaminal supports DICT’s digital infrastructure plans, with the provincial government allocating a PHP1 billion budget for the implementation of various programs.

At the start of the year, Oaminal convened the Provincial Tourism Office to review last year’s accomplishments and finalize the 2026 action plan to improve tourism programs in the province.

The DICT also provided technical support to local government units by facilitating training on cybersecurity and online systems for their daily operations in municipal and city offices. (PNA)
