The annual Traslacion procession honoring the Divino Rostro and Our Lady of Peñafrancia attracted more than 800,000 Catholic devotees and pilgrims in Naga City.

Lt. Col. Chester Pomar, chief of the Naga City Police Community Affairs and Development Unit, said the event went smoothly.

“The Naga City Police Office, along with other police units from our regional headquarters, was equipped with task group security and crowd control measures to ensure safety and security,” he said in an interview.

“We also had traffic management and personnel known as ‘boyadores’ in place.”

Pomar said drone operators assisted in monitoring the situation and potential incidents.

“Only authorized drones can operate during the event, and any unauthorized drones will be taken down,” he added.

He also said the suspension of licensed firearms outside residences would remain in effect until Sept. 21.

“We are increasing the number of drone operators who will communicate with staff throughout the entire area. Additionally, we are deploying Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT), K-9 units to enhance security,” he said.

Pomar said they are fully prepared for the fluvial procession on Saturday, which is expected to draw more than 1.5 million devotees.

“The Coast Guard’s role will be emphasized in our security plans, especially concerning maritime safety during the event, as the use of pagodas will also be prominent,” he said.

Pomar added that there would be signal interruptions during peak events, including the upcoming fluvial procession. (PNA)
