A farmers’ organization in Gubat, Sorsogon, can now easily transport their harvested eggs and expand market access with a new motorized hauler from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).
The assistance is part of the Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty under the Program Beneficiaries Development which aims to provide agrarian reform beneficiaries with various forms of support to boost productivity and improve livelihoods.
The group also received an egg production enterprise package, which included two ready-to-lay chicken cages, training kits, and layer feeds totaling PHP425,000.
DAR officer Eleanor Torres said the new hauler would open up wider market opportunities for the cooperative.
“Beyond expanding access to markets, the hauler will also provide greater capacity to sell more products due to its larger load space. It will reduce transportation costs and ultimately increase sales,” Torres said in a statement.
Maria Nancy Chiao, president of the Jupi-San Vicente Farmers Agriculture Cooperative (Jusafarco), expressed her gratitude, saying this would help their egg production enterprise.
“Our poultry project has become a reliable source of additional income for our members. With DAR’s support, we continue to strengthen Jusafarco, which mainly supported the needs of the family,” Chiao said. (PNA)
