A multipurpose cooperative in this capital town of Antique received a goat multiplier farm worth PHP3 million from the Department of Agriculture-Western Visayas (DA-WV) to serve as a source of good breeds for the province.

DA-WV livestock technician Mark Anthony Untal said in an interview Thursday that they turned over the housing, 27 heads of upgraded goat stocks, feeds for one cycle, forage, and other forms of support to the San Jose de Buenavista Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SJMPC) in a ceremony on Wednesday.

“We turned over the PHP3 million worth of assistance to the officers of the SJMPC in their goat multiplier farm in Barangay Sido, Sibalom,” he said.

The project is a grant from DA-WV to help goat farmers, who are members of the cooperative and other raisers in the province, access goat kids.

The upgraded goats are considered breeder goats and will be ready to produce kids by next month.

“Each of the breeder goats is expected to produce at least two to four kids, which is higher than that of a non-hybrid goat that would be dispersed to the coop members,” Untal said.

He said that the cooperative will have an agreement on how a member or a goat-raiser could avail themselves of the kids.

The DA-WV also provided Napier grass for planting on the three-hectare farm for the goat’s forage. (PNA)
