The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office IV-A has released a total of PHP22.77 million in seed capital to 67 Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) associations across Batangas province.

Joseph Arceo, Public Information Officer of DSWD IV-A, said Monday the funds will support various livelihood ventures initiated by organized groups under the SLP, a program designed to improve the economic well-being of vulnerable communities.

“These associations have undergone capacity-building activities focused on leadership, financial literacy, and basic enterprise development. The seed capital is a result of their hard work and readiness to operate their own businesses,” Arceo said in an interview.

Among the micro-enterprises to be launched are rice retailing, general merchandise stores, hog raising, broiler chicken production, salons, and motorcycle repair shops, among others. Each group will manage its own enterprise and share profits to help supplement household income.

“This initiative is a key step in empowering communities to become self-reliant and resilient,” Arceo added. “Through sustainable livelihood opportunities, families will have better means to meet their daily needs.”

SLP is one of DSWD’s flagship poverty reduction initiatives designed to provide capacity-building and financial assistance to help low-income individuals and communities engage in income-generating activities. (PNA)
