The Philippine Coast Guard in Bicol (PCG-5) facilitated the passage of over 50,000 outbound passengers and 31,000 inbound passengers through regional ports on May 9 to 12.

In an interview on Tuesday, Commodore Ivan Roldan reported that the PCG-5 also provided security assistance to voters in 116 precincts across the six provinces of the Bicol Region.

Roldan said outbound passengers were those who traveled from Metro Manila or other parts of Luzon to the Bicol Region, while inbound passengers were those who came from Bicol and traveled to other regions of the country.

He noted that the heavy congestion of passengers and vehicles traveling to the Visayas and Mindanao at the Matnog Port in Sorsogon was effectively managed.

“The reported influx of passengers and rolling cargoes has subsided. We continue to enforce strict monitoring and management to maintain order,” he added.

Roldan said port officials oversaw the arrival and departure of travelers to and from their respective provinces to cast their ballots, while safe and orderly port operations were maintained.

“We sincerely thank everyone for their patience and cooperation, which greatly contributed to the smooth flow of travel. We remain fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of all travelers, especially during periods of high passenger volume,” he said.

The PCG-5 said it remained dedicated to its mandate of protecting the nation’s maritime domain, ensuring public safety, and upholding the democratic process.

“With professionalism, vigilance, and service-oriented leadership, the district stands ready to support national efforts in promoting peace, order and good governance,” he concluded. (PNA)
