At least 200 hot meals will be served daily at the newly launched Walang Gutom Kitchen (WGK) in Samar province, the fourth facility of its kind in the country.

The facility, which opened on Monday, will prioritize individuals and families experiencing involuntary hunger, street dwellers, and vulnerable low-income workers.

“Beyond providing immediate food assistance, the WGK aims to serve as a venue for connecting children, families, Indigenous Peoples, and other vulnerable individuals with appropriate social protection programs and services,” the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said in a statement issued late Monday.

The project is a partnership between the DSWD and the provincial government of Samar.

The launch was formalized through the signing of a memorandum of agreement between the DSWD and the provincial government to strengthen their partnership in addressing hunger and supporting vulnerable communities.

Through the initiative, the DSWD aims to improve access to nutritious meals and essential assistance while strengthening efforts to address hunger and promote food security.

The DSWD established the first WGK facility in Pasay City in 2024 and later expanded the project by opening a Visayas branch in Cebu City and a Mindanao branch in Zamboanga City in June 2026.

All branches operate daily from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. for free breakfast and lunch to beneficiaries. (PNA)
