LITAW, a groundbreaking program designed to provide rapid and holistic assistance to Filipino families impacted by natural disasters, is set to be launched this month in some of the most disaster-prone regions.

Liwanag (Light), Internet, Tubig (Water), Assistance and Welfare will focus on addressing the urgent needs of communities devastated by disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes, and fires, according to Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino.

“The program aims to prioritize the restoration of essential services — electricity, internet connectivity and clean water — while delivering direct welfare assistance to families in need,” Tolentino said in a news release on Monday. “The LITAW Program will not only provide immediate relief but also help communities rebuild and recover with dignity and resilience.”

The core components of the LITAW Program include restoration of basic utilities; financial and welfare assistance; and sustainable disaster response infrastructure.

Tolentino said immediate efforts would be made to bring back electricity, internet access, and clean water in disaster-stricken areas, while direct support will be provided to families to ease the burden of rebuilding their lives.

“By restoring essential services and offering direct support, LITAW is poised to become a beacon of hope for families in crisis,” he said.

Sustainable disaster response infrastructure will ensure long-term preparedness and recovery mechanisms for future calamities.

Tolentino aims to institutionalize the program as a critical component of the country’s disaster management framework

“The goal is not just to provide temporary relief but to give Filipino families the tools and resources they need to recover and thrive even in the aftermath of a disaster,” Tolentino said. “The LITAW Program marks a significant step in strengthening the Philippines’ disaster response capabilities and ensuring a brighter future for all Filipinos.” (PNA)
