Over PHP112 million worth of infrastructure projects in the 5th-class island of Pilar will boost economic and tourism activity, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said Wednesday.

The project is aligned with the aggressive efforts of the provincial government to bolster the tourist arrival count on the island following the launch of a smart pier system in Liloan recently inaugurated by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

The PHP112.05 million concreting work on the first phase of the six-kilometer circumferential road was funded by the provincial government, according to Garcia in a statement.

The road project was completed in 300 days by a private construction company, making it the latest infrastructure project the provincial government poured in for the municipality, she added.

Also, the local government unit received PHP11.5 million worth of financial assistance during the distribution of various aids at the caravan of government services on Tuesday.

Mayor Winky Santiago formally received PHP5 million from the Capitol to fund the town’s various infrastructure projects, while Vice Mayor Chiziline Maratas also got PHP2 million to fund her pet projects for the town.

Ten municipal councilors were also allocated PHP2.5 million to pursue their collective projects while the 10 barangays got PHP200,000 to fund their programs.

The island is 85.5 kilometers away from Cebu City. (PNA)
