The city government here announced Tuesday that a total of 48 infrastructure projects have been lined up this year under an aggressive building program dubbed “Big Bang 2024.”

Mayor Lucilo Bayron said the city government has earmarked PHP400 million for these projects, with an additional PHP300 million on the way.

The projects include a housing venture in Barangay Irawan, which is in line with the Marcos administration’s flagship Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino Housing (4PH) Program.

Bayron said these infrastructure initiatives are meant to reach every corner of the community, not just the central areas, to help enhance the daily living conditions of more city residents.

“It is important that these projects are felt, not just in the town centers but also in the most remote areas,” he told reporters.

The mayor led a series of groundbreaking ceremonies from Feb. 14 to 18 to signal the start of this year’s massive infrastructure undertaking, with key officials of the Department of Social Housing and Development (DHSUD), Social Housing Financing Corporation (SHFC), and various other national government agencies in attendance to show the national government’s support.

“It’s also important that through these, our daily lives become easier and more comfortable. Of course, this is mostly for the city’s heirs, our youth,” Bayron added.

The “Big Bang” events also marked the beginning of further infrastructure enhancements, including the completion of the Salvacion Public Market, the creation of Standard Day Care Centers in multiple barangays, and the improvement of roads in the city center.

Ceremonies were also held to inaugurate three major Puerto Princesa City Police Office (PPCPO) stations in Barangays Luzviminda, San Rafael, and Macarascas.

Bayron also announced the start of construction on a new dormitory in Barangay San Rafael and road upgrades in Barangays San Pedro and San Miguel.

He affirmed the city government’s commitment to addressing the needs of both the rural and urban communities of Puerto Princesa. (PNA)
