The city school board here has allocated some PHP49 million in local funds for the implementation of Department of Education (DepEd) programs and projects.

The allocation is under the city’s Special Education Fund and approved by the local school board chaired by Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, according to a statement of city information officer Katherine Aguilar on Tuesday.

The approved projects for 2024 include the subscription of digital resources for junior and senior high schools, PHP2.3 million; rehabilitation of K to 12 laboratory classrooms, PHP4 million; and procurement of K to 12 equipment and reading materials, PHP3.5 million.

Also covered are payments for electric and water bills for the public schools, estimated at PHP22.5 million; and payment of salaries and wages for 52 utility workers, clerks, security guards, and computer technicians, PHP5.1 million.

On Monday, Remollo briefed the new officials of the Dumaguete City DepEd Schools Division and discussed interventions to improve access to quality education.

Schools Division Officer-In-Charge Dr. Marina Salamanca and deputy Dr. Edmark Ian Cabio were updated on the programs, projects, and activities of the school board this year.

Salamanca recently assumed her post in place of Dr. Casiana Caberte, who is now assigned to the DepEd Bohol Division.

Funds are also allotted for the purchase of supplies and materials for public schools at PHP500,000; participation in the division, regional, and national festival talents, school press conferences, and science fairs, PHP2 million; and expenses for division, regional, and national sports activities, PHP9 million.
