The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has donated medicines and other medical supplies to the provincial government of Negros Oriental for distribution to conflict-affected areas.

The ICRC had earlier written the provincial government about its plan to extend assistance to Negros Oriental, particularly in areas that are facing conflict, such as those affected by the communist insurgency, Provincial Health Office (PHO) chief Dr. Liland Estacion said in a statement Thursday.

The distribution of the medicines and medical supplies will be coursed through the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH), she added.

“Aside from the NOPH as the primary referral hospital, the Guihulngan District Hospital in Guihulngan City will be the distribution hub because the northern part of the province still has plenty of insurgency-affected areas,” Estacion said.

Part of the assistance like medicines for fever, cough, colds; vitamins; and medical supplies were delivered to Guihulngan City on Wednesday.

Gov. Manuel Sagarbarria, Vice Gov. Jaime Reyes, and Estacion received the donation from ICRC representatives at the capitol grounds.

Estacion said officials from the ICRC-Philippines will soon visit Negros Oriental to discuss possible further assistance.

The ICRC donation may also be used for indigent patients. (PNA)
