Billionaire and SpaceX Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk gives a major rebranding to Twitter as he launches its new logo, ‘X,’ and expands the platform to banking and commerce.
On July 23, the whole Twitter community witnessed a major change to the platform when the bird logo was replaced with the ‘X’ one upon opening the app.
This follows Musk’s tweet saying, “And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand, and, gradually, all the birds.”
More changes in the app that will be implemented are the Viewers,” which will replace the “Followers” section on users’ profiles; the default platform color, which will be changed to black; shadowbans; easy scam reporting; and creator payments, among others.
With this rebranding, Musk revives his old dream of turning Twitter into a banking platform where it will be a “marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities,” as per Twitter Chief Executive Officer Linda Yaccarino.
Musk talked about his old banking dream back in 2022 when he gathered Twitter employees for the first time since he bought the social media company.
“And so that’s definitely a direction we’re going to go in, enabling people on Twitter to be able to send money anywhere in the world instantly and in real-time,” Musk said via the obtained recording of an American technology news website.
Powered by AI, ‘X’ claims to “connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine.”
