The city government kicked off here Thursday a PHP7-million streetlight project funded through the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) incentive it won last year.

Mayor Jose Paolo Evangelista, who led the ceremonial pole installation ceremony together with Department of the Interior and Local Government in the Soccsksargen Region (DILG-12) Director Josephine Leysa, said the streetlights will be mounted in strategic areas.

“The streetlights will particularly be put up along the Kidapawan-M’lang national highway and the busy road of Ninoy Aquino Avenue that leads to the city’s overland terminal,” Evangelista said.

He said the project aims to assure road safety and also protect the public from crimes that may arise in the streets.

Evangelista said the city has been a consistent SGLG awardee since 2016 after passing the stiff evaluation from the DILG on transparency, accountability, at good governance.

Chairman Alberto Canonoy of Barangay Lanao, whose area is a beneficiary of the project, said the initiative that can help eradicate crimes and boost business investments here.

“This is an effective means to invite investors to bolster our local economy which could offer opportunities such as employment,” he said.

The project is set for completion by October this year. (PNA)
