Having someone you like is a beautiful feeling to hold on to, but the idea of confessing your real feelings can be overwhelming at times, as you have no idea when or how to start with it, while also dealing with your fear of rejection.

If you have already used up the cheesiest pick-up lines out there but still failed to confess, maybe it’s time to use some of these OPM songs to let your special someone know how you feel.

1. Pagtingin by Ben&Ben

Released in July 2019, “Pagtingin” is one of Ben&Ben’s hit songs that a lot of people find very relatable in terms of shying away from love confessions.

If you are someone who is hesitating to say what you genuinely feel because you’re scared that you might lose a friend and a potential lover at the same time, this song is definitely for you.

The lyrics, “‘Pag nilahad ang damdamin, sana ‘di magbago ang pagtingin, Aminin ang mga lihim, sana ‘di magbago ang pagtingin,” is enough to convey your longing for a certain person.

Instead of keeping your feelings a secret that could torment you inside for months or years, it is better to let them out because, who knows, maybe that person is only waiting for you to confess first.

2. Bawat Daan by Ebe Dancel

In November 2015, Ebe Dancel released another masterpiece that became an anthem for everyone who had already found their “certain love” in this world full of uncertainties.

This song really hits the heart because of how magical and heartwarming every word sounds.

If you want to emphasize how sure you are of your feelings, you can definitely use these lyrics: “Nag-iisang tiyak sa isang libong duda, silong sa iyak at pagluluksa. Kung puso ko ay imamapa, ikaw ang dulo, gitna’t simula.”

Letting your special someone know that you find them in all directions that you take is a tender reminder that you want them by your side as you journey through the chapters of your life.

This gives a very good sense of assurance that you are serious and truthful about your feelings.
And every road will only lead you back to that “certain someone,” no matter what happens.

3. Balisong by Rivermaya

In 2003, Filipino alternative rock band Rivermaya released the top-rated Balisong, which dominated Philippine music charts back in the day.

A Filipino song written in English, the song creatively delivered one’s feelings of wanting and yearning for a person they see as more than just a friend.

If you are tired of prolonging the misery as you keep your feelings buried somewhere in the dark, you might want to use this line: “Never in my life have I been more sure, so come on up to me and close the door. Nobody’s made me feel this way before; you’re everything I wanted and more.”

There is nothing wrong with desiring more, especially if you are genuine about how you feel.

4. Sa’yo by Munimuni

Sa’yo is a song released by Munimuni in 2017. It is known for its folk sound that is beautifully incorporated with poetic lyrics of love, hope, and longing.

If you are poetic and fond of using deep words as a way to express what you feel, then you can certainly use these lyrics: “Ni isang beses ay hindi pa ‘ko nakakakain ng paruparo, ngunit tila bakit ang sikmura ko’y puno? Saka ko naalala na noon nang una kong masabi ang pangalan mo, nakalunok ako, kaya siguro?”

This song has its own way of poetically conveying both the gloom and beauty of love. It is something romantic but will make you ache at a certain point as the lyrics carry a whole lot of fondness, desire, and urgent longing all in one.

5. Ligaya by mrld

Meriel de Jesus, best known as “mrld,” released Ligaya in 2021, which became a famous song mostly for people who are struggling with their unrequited love.

Everyone must have experienced liking a person who is also very aware of what you feel about them but does nothing to acknowledge it.

But then again, not all feelings exposed are deemed to be reciprocated, whether you confessed directly or were caught in the act.

If you are tired of the endless push-and-pulls, then you can definitely try these lyrics: “’Di pa ba halata na iba ang ihip ng hangin dito? Kung pwede lang sabihin nang deretsahan ang aking gusto. At teka, ang bulag mo naman kung ‘di pa rin nasisilayan, nagbago na ang pagtingin.”

There are also those suffering with their “manhid” special someone, but maybe an obvious hint from this song can help you. Remember that sometimes you won’t know your actual chances unless you open up about your real feelings.

6. Umaapaw by Ang Bandang Shirley

Umaapaw is Ang Bandang Shirley’s first single off their 2017 album. Its official music video displays the sublime storytelling of two beautiful souls who clearly have feelings for each other.

“Umaapaw” which means “Overflowing” in Tagalog, shows a kind of blatant love that just fills you over and over until you feel like bursting because of it.

If you are the type who gets overwhelmed by the certainty of your own feelings, then use this line to share what’s inside of your heart: “Talumpati sa harap ng isang tao, walang ibang kailangan, lahat kabisado. Buo ang loob ko sa iyo, ganito ako kasigurado.”

The song even ends with this line that just makes a person feel so loved, needed, and acknowledged: “Ikaw ang tubig na papawi sa ‘king uhaw, pag-ibig ko’y umaapaw.”

As much as these songs certainly bring out all the “kilig” feelings, remember that it is always best to be direct, sincere, and honest when it comes to expressing what you really feel towards someone you consider special in your life.
