The municipality of Urbiztondo will hold its first Kanen Festival and Boodle Fight on April 29 which will showcase 40,000 pieces of native cakes delicacies.

In a statement on Friday, Mayor Modesto Operania said native cakes will be placed on a long stretch of tables along the main thoroughfare in Urbiztondo and will be eaten via boodle fight by the attendees.

Among the delicacies to be showcased in the Kanen Festival are latik, bibingka-pininat, biko, turonket, unda-unday, suman, sapin-sapin, and palitaw (with fillings).

“Vice President Inday Sara Duterte will be the guest of honor and speaker. She has confirmed to attend the festival during our recent teleconference meeting where various projects were discussed,” he said.

After the boodle fight, the festivity will feature a People’s Night Grand Ballroom.

The festival is part of the town’s founding anniversary celebration.

Other events include the Cycling Criterium, the opening of the 1st Urbiztondo Invitational Basketball 2-Day League, and the Educator’s Night on April 27; a unity run, street dancing, and zarzuela with Insiyong Tamayo on April 28; and a procession, Misa na Pisasalamat, goodwill volleyball games, championship games of the Basketball League, a Zumba Invitational Contest, the Swing and Rock Festival, and a fireworks display on April 30.

The founding anniversary centers on the theme: “Embracing Change, Rebuilding Legacy and Aspiring Greatness.”

“The theme expresses our desire to make our town great again. We have already initiated various reforms to make the town peaceful, beautiful, and progressive,” Operania said.

Urbiztondo is known for its agricultural products that residents turn into native rice cake delicacies. (PNA)
