The Philippine Army (PA) dragon boat team won the ”Battle of the Dragons” competition at the Dolomite Beach on Roxas Boulevard, Manila last Dec. 4.

In a statement Tuesday, PA spokesperson Col. Xerxes Trinidad said the Army’s Dragon Boat Warriors emerged as champions in the Women’s Premier Smallboat, Mixed Premier Standard Boat, and Open Premier Standard Boat categories, besting other elite dragon boat teams that competed in the race.

“The PA Dragon Warriors has been a powerhouse team since it debuted in local dragon boat races in 2010. The team brought home gold medals during International Dragon Boat Federation-sanctioned World Dragon Boat Championships in Italy (2014) and Australia (2016),” he added.

Meanwhile, Special Service Center (SSC) director Col. John Oliver Gabun commended the Dragon Warriors for showcasing the team’s cohesiveness and discipline that propelled them to victory.

“Kudos on your smooth finish with a strong glide of becoming champions,” he added.

Meanwhile, the PA Arnis Team bagged three medals in the Philippine Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation’s National Capital Region Arnis Qualifying Tournament at the Rizal Memorial Basketball Coliseum on Dec. 4.

Army arnis athletes bagged medals in three live stick events.

Cpl. Kemberley Acero bagged the gold medal in the welterweight category while Cpl. Kimberly Jane Besana bagged a silver medal in the middleweight category.

Meanwhile, Sgt. Jacquelyn Sotabento bagged another silver medal in the lightweight category. (PNA)
