The Department of Migrant Workers in Caraga Region (DMW-13) has released PHP6.2 million in financial assistance to 102 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), bringing government aid closer to beneficiaries struggling with financial difficulties, medical conditions and mobility challenges.

The assistance was distributed through the agency’s Serbisyo sa Tugkaran initiative, which allows qualified OFWs to receive support in their respective provinces instead of traveling to Butuan City.

“Serbisyo sa Tugkaran” means bringing the agency’s services to the doorstep of beneficiaries.

Of the beneficiaries, 41 are from Agusan del Sur, 32 from Surigao del Sur, 26 from Surigao del Norte and three from the Province of Dinagat Islands as of October.

DMW-13 coordinated the release of the assistance through the respective Provincial Public Employment Service Offices. Beneficiaries who were medically unable to travel or had significant mobility difficulties received the assistance directly in their homes.

“Our OFWs have sacrificed much for their families and our country. When they face difficult circumstances, it is our responsibility to make government assistance accessible to them and, whenever necessary, bring that assistance directly to their communities and homes,” DMW-13 said.

The agency added that the initiative seeks to reduce the burden of travel on distressed OFWs and their families, particularly those dealing with health and financial difficulties.

The assistance was provided through the DMW’s AKSYON Fund, which extends financial, medical, legal and other forms of support to OFWs facing distress and problems related to their overseas employment.

The program is implemented in accordance with DMW Department Order No. 02, series of 2025.

“The Serbisyo aims to make its services more accessible and responsive by bringing assistance closer to migrant workers and their families,” DMW-13 said. (PNA)
