Members of the Phoenix SUPER LPG Fuel Masters recently launched a new edition of its basketball camp for kids aged six to 16 years old. The Phoenix Pinoy Hoops Basketball Camp – Family and Friends Edition kicked off on November 20, 2022 at the PBA team’s home court in The Upper Deck along Julia Vargas Avenue, Pasig City. Exclusive to kids of Phoenix employees, business partners, and friends, the four-day sports clinic has attracted more than 40 boys and girls.

“After more than two years since the pandemic changed our lives and kept us from enjoying our passions, including sports, it’s time we finally go back out and play. It’s good both for mental and physical health,” said Phoenix Senior Vice President and Phoenix SUPER LPG Fuel Masters team governor Atty. Raymond Zorrilla. According to him, the clinic is conducted by different team members of the team to help kids develop basketball skills and values, while allowing Phoenix families to spend time together through sports. “This is only one of our ways to also give back to the community as we believe in the power of sports in instilling life-long values among children,” he added.

Set on four weekends of November and December, the camp is conducted by different Fuel Masters team members. Present during the first day of camp last Sunday were team manager Paolo Bugia, head coach Topex Robinson, assistant coach Willie Wilson, and players Tyler Tio, JV Mocon, Sean Anthony, Jason Perkins, and Kaleb Wesson.

In every session, the participants are grouped according to their age range and skill level. Each group is then given a variety of drills, and is taught dribbling, basic layups, passing, and shooting among other basketball skills, before they play against each other. All the while, they are trained and assisted by actual PBA players.

“It’s great to be able to do this because all the kids are really excited to play. Their energy is so positive, so it’s fun even for us,” said Phoenix shooting guard Tio.

Before its recent edition, the team has held several Pinoy Hoops camps since 2018, including editions in Subic and Davao. The next sessions of the Phoenix Pinoy Hoops Basketball Camp – Family and Friends Edition will be conducted on November 27, December 3, and December 10.
