The Philippine Army (PA) on Tuesday announced that one of its sergeants has won the gold and silver medals in the Singapore Beach Wrestling Fiesta last August 28.

“Sergeant Noel Norada bagged the gold medal after dominating the Beach Wrestling 70-kilogram category. He also clinched a silver medal in the Beach Sambo 73-kilogram bracket of the said tourney organized by the Singapore Wrestling Federation,” PA spokesperson Col. Xerxes Trinidad said in a statement.

The sporting event took place at Siloso Beach, Sentosa, Singapore, and was joined by around 120 elite wrestlers, grapplers, and samboists.

Army Special Service Center (SSC) director Col. John Oliver F. Gabun hailed Norada for bringing honor and glory not only to the PA but also to the Philippines.

“Congratulations on your victory! Your steadfast dedication and effort to train on top of fulfilling your duties as a soldier is truly laudable. Know that the Philippine Army is behind your back as you play in bigger matches in the future,” he added.

Meanwhile, PA badminton players also won four medals in the three-day Cameroon International Badminton Competition which took place last Aug. 25 to 28.

The event which was held at the African nation’s capital city Yaounde is one of the badminton qualifying rounds for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“Private Alvin Morada copped gold medals in the men’s doubles and mixed doubles categories while his teammate Private Thea Marie Pomar bagged bronze medals in the women’s doubles and mixed doubles categories. The said competition, organized by the Badminton World Federation, saw the action of elite badminton athletes from 17 countries,” Trinidad added.

Gabun lauded Morada and Pomar for their success in the international badminton arena.

“Continue to train hard and sustain your winning momentum. Your dedication to excellence, without a doubt, will propel you to more victories! Keep up your optimum blend of teamwork, devotion, and eagerness on the badminton court,” the SSC chief added. (PNA)
