The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has released 5,179 family food packs to families in Antique that were affected by the Typhoon Odette.

The food packs benefited families from the towns of Tobias Fornier, Libertad, Sibalom, Anini-y, Bugasong, and Culasi.

“DSWD regional director Evelyn Macapobre was here in Antique during the distribution of family food packs in the municipality of Tobias Fornier yesterday, December 19,” said Jeffrey Gabucay, Antique Provincial Pantawid Link and in-charge of the relief distribution.

Gabucay said Tobias Fornier, Bugasong, Culasi and Libertad were released with 1,000 family food packs each, Sibalom with 879, and Anini-y with 300.

Each food pack contains six kilos of rice, two cans of sardines, four cans of corned beef, four cans of tuna, five sachets of coffee, and five sachets of Energen drink.

“The release of the family food packs were based on the request of the municipalities,” he said.

Gabucay said Anini-y initially requested for 300 family food packs but it could still seek for additional supplies depending on the number of their affected families.

He said they are still expecting other municipalities to also make a request.

The municipality of San Remigio already requested for 300 family food packs.

“We have prepositioned already prior days to the typhoon family food packs of 1,020 in Tobias Fornier and another 200 in Barbaza towns,” he added.

Tobias Fornier is situated adjacent to Anini-y that was forecasted to be most vulnerable to the typhoon, while Barbaza is in the northern part of the province.

Gabucay said the other family food packs released to the municipalities came from the DSWD warehouse in the municipality of Oton, Iloilo. (PNA)
