The Philippine Eagle Center (PEC) announced on Monday, December 6 that a 29th Philippine eaglet, the fastest to hatch on the record, hatched on December 4 with parents named Ariela and MVP Matatag.

The PEC was thrilled to post a photo of chick no. 29 stating that Chick no. 29 took 25 hours and 13 minutes before it cracked its egg. “Seems like a long time, but actually it is the fastest pip-to-hatch record in our breeding program,” the PEC wrote.

“This chick just couldn’t wait to say hello to the world,” the foundation added.

Eaglet 29 is an offspring of male parent MVP Matatag, adopted by the Philippine Long Distance Telecommunications Corp. in 2017, and female parent Ariela, adopted by Ariela Marketing Co. in 2015, both came from a younger batch of raptors that were introduced together in 2019.

The freshly fledged eagle’s breed will be cared for and developed by the PEF, as the center’s breeding capacity has reduced due to its falling population.
