Netflix and The Roald Dahl Story Company struck an agreement in 2018 to develop a series of animated adaptations of the acclaimed British author’s children’s classics, and now it’s becoming true.

The streaming giant revealed that it had acquired the Story Company, including the children’s classics like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The BFG, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and more.

Financial information was not provided. However, the deal, which had been widely assumed, is thought to be one of Netflix’s largest acquisitions to date.

The takeover will help Netflix strengthen its content arsenal in the streaming wars since it already has a deal in place with the Roald Dahl Story Company to license 16 titles.

Moreover, Netflix has gained access to significant intellectual property that has captivated the hearts of both youngsters and adults as a result of the deal.

Roald Dahl’s works have been translated into 63 languages and have sold over 300 million copies across the world which offers a huge global opportunity for the streaming giant.

Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos wrote in a blog post, “There is a moment in James and the Giant Peach when the Ladybird says: “We are now about to visit the most marvelous places and see the most wonderful things!”

The Centipede replied, “There is no knowing what we shall see!” Netflix and The Roald Dahl Story Company have one thing in common, and that’s the deep love of storytelling.

“We have an extraordinary opportunity to write multiple new chapters of these beloved stories, delighting children and adults around the world for generations to come,” it added.
