Through the nine episodes packed with thrilled and bloody action-adventure games, this movie series shows how the gamers will test their limits to secure the million-dollar prize and escape from the harsh reality of life.
The well-written movie is about the 456 desperate people saddled with a huge amount of debt who are hopeful to win the prize and live in luxury. Unaware of the consequences, people entered the battle royale-like playground and signed up for a life and death game.
At the outset, we could find it odd since the players were not called by their names, rather, they were treated like numbers. The frontman explained uncertain rules and reminded the players that joining the game is not compulsory. However, since most of them are impoverished and in need of money, they stay in the arena without knowing the bloody termination that awaits them.

The first episode builds the thrilling story since it started with the famous kid’s game ‘Red Light, Green Light.’ At first, the players were excited to accomplish the task, but not until they heard the loud sound of a rifle and witnessed the unusual way of eliminating the losers. Players were shocked as they watched the blood streaming on the bodies of their co-gamers.
The premise of this game is that, for every person who dies, the globe piled up of money will increase according to the numbers of people slain. There will be no rules in winning. Even if you kill other players, as long as you follow the instructions of the frontman, you can do whatever it takes just to win the prize. Various Korean games were played in the movie, and in every episode, people were mercilessly killed until they hailed the last man standing.
While this striking series lured the public into watching it, viewers find Squid Game somehow similar to the Japanese movie series ‘Alice in Borderland’ because of the story plot. But the Squid Game does not only focus on the game itself. This series highlighted the character’s backstories and successfully embodied their portrayal. Different players hold different stories that make the movie more dramatic than usual. It is a story of friendship, betrayal, love, sacrifices, and bravery.
Hit filmmaker Hwang Dong-hyuk (Silenced, Miss Granny) never failed in producing worthy series, but this time, Squid Game exceeded the expectations of many. Squid Game depicts the cruel reality of life and how people surpass their limits in order to reach the peak of success. This is a real battle of survival— a battle that holds different stories of people.
