The Philippines keeps climbing the global speed rankings after being included in the Top 100 in the ranking of mobile and fixed broadband internet speeds, based on the data released by global speed monitoring firm Speedtest by Ookla for June 2021.

According to an Ookla report released in June 2021, the Philippines climbed two positions to 75th rank in terms of mobile internet speed, with an average mobile download speed of 32.84 Mbps, up from 77th place in May 2021.

Meanwhile, the country ranked 62nd from the previous 65th place in fixed broadband, with an average fixed download speed of 66.55 Mbps and an average fixed upload speed of 66.86 Mbps.

To be rated in each category, Ookla looked at nations that had at least 300 unique user results for mobile or fixed broadband.

Internet service providers (ISPs), like Globe Telecom and PLDT Inc., in the nation are continuing to expand network services to provide high-quality services to their customers in terms of network connection, especially while the epidemic is still ongoing.

Having a reliable and steady internet connection is essential, especially as the majority of us adjust to the new normal, such as working from home and online distance learning.

President Rodrigo Duterte said in his 5th State of the Nation Address that telecommunications companies must improve their service or face being forced to close.
