As an artist being trapped on board, a 22-year-old seafarer by profession has caught the hearts of many Filipinos and aspiring artists to become more innovative and create out of the box art masterpieces despite the ongoing pandemic.

Jaypee Bacera Magno became an instant viral artist on Facebook as he posted some of his artworks made out of curiosity that resulted from him to create portraits using condiments and stuffing such as Nutella, chocolate syrup, ketchup, red wine, coffee, soy sauce, and even toothpaste.

Due to the coronavirus disease, the Iloilo native artist started creating his unique artworks when he was quarantined from November to December last year.

Getting used to his old art materials, Magno wasn’t convinced anymore to his art style so he started to use things that can be found in their pantry at work.

Magno’s first experiment was using ketchup that was given to him together with his meals. Since he barely put condiments on any of his foods so he started to collect it and use it on his drawings.

First, he drew Miss Universe Rabiya Mateo using ketchup. The beauty queen had noticed it and shared it on Facebook.

Also, Magno drew the late Senator Mirriam Defensor Santiago (using soy sauce), Senator Manny Pacquiao (using Nutella), Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto (using choco syrup), and 1st runner-up Miss Grand International Samantha Bernardo (using ketchup).

Aside from condiments, Magno has discovered that he can also showcase his artistry using garments. “Nagstart po ako sa Labahan Artwork noong Thursday lang po, April 1,” he said during his interview at PAGEONE.

“Tambak na po kasi noon yung labahan ko Ma’am. Then habang nilalapag ko po sa sahig, nag-pop up lang po sa isip ko na gumawa ng art gamit ang labahan ko kasi almost all naman po ay black in color,” he added.

Recently, Magno honored and drew Filipino soldiers, who fought during the fall of Bataan as the country celebrates Day of Valor on April 9th, using black and white garments.

Magno continues to create relevant art pieces conveying that “art has no limits.”
