The province of Negros Oriental has recorded 810 recoveries from the total 1,020 positive cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) from the start of the pandemic to date.

Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion, health committee chair of the province’s Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), said in a virtual presser Thursday, the latest 12 recoveries are from Dumaguete City (6); Tanjay City (5); and Mabinay (1).

Estacion said they received 147 swab test results from the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital Molecular Laboratory, of which 120 were negative (including those of the 12 recoveries), 15 repeat-swab positives, and 12 new positive cases.

The new positive infections are from Dumaguete City (seven); Tanjay City and San Jose (two each); and Sta. Catalina (one).

This brought to 178 the total number of active cases in Negros Oriental.

The number of mortalities in the province rose to 30, with two deaths reported Wednesday, involving patients with comorbidities, Estacion said.

Meanwhile, Estacion said a bank in the city where an employee had tested positive for Covid-19 is “safe” as disinfection and other mitigating measures were already carried out, and there is no need for a temporary closure.

She said a containment is in place, the patient is isolated, co-workers in close contact with the bank employee were quarantined, and strict health protocols, such as the wearing of face shield and face mask, are implemented.

Estacion said the bank has requested not to be named.

She said they visited the bank after the employee was found positive for the virus. (PNA)
