Some 5,333 patients in this city have already recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), or more than 95 percent of the 5,588 total confirmed cases as of Sunday.

Data released by the city government based on the figures of the Department of Health-Western Visayas (DOH) showed that Bacolod has 82 remaining active cases, and 173 deaths.

The DOH-6 also reported zero new cases here on Sunday.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia said on Monday that although the city’s Covid-19 cases continue to decrease, it is no reason to celebrate because the virus is still around.

“Please continue to be vigilant because in other countries, the virus keeps on coming back…We just need your cooperation. Let us support each other,” Leonardia said in a video message to city residents.

Leonardia also thanked the medical front-liners, including doctors, nurses, and medical technologists and other health workers, who helped the city’s fight against Covid-19, along with the members of the local Inter-Agency Task Force and Emergency Operations Center, as well as the personnel of Philippine National Police, Philippine Army and the Philippine Coast Guard.

He acknowledged the work of the barangay officials with their health emergency response teams, and also the workers who serve and watch the quarantine facilities for locally-stranded individuals and overseas Filipino workers.

Bacolod has reverted to modified general community quarantine status from Dec. 1 until the year-end.

When cases spiked here in August, the city was placed under modified enhanced community quarantine in September, and under general community quarantine from October to November.

Since Dec. 1, the curfew was imposed from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m., but was eventually shortened to 11 p.m. to 3 a.m., from Dec. 15 to 31.

With the city’s improving Covid-19 situation, Leonardia suspended the curfew hours on Dec. 24 and also this coming Dec. 31 to allow Bacolodnons more time to celebrate the two occasions. (PNA)
