The Leyte provincial government is eyeing a stimulus package for residents badly displaced by the current coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) health crisis.

Leyte Vice Governor Carlo Loreto said on Monday that although Leyte’s economy has been least affected compared to other provinces in terms of livelihood, a stimulus package is much needed especially in remote areas.

The stimulus package will include massive infrastructure spending of government funds, and livelihood programs for the different sectors in the province.

Loreto said the project will be in coordination with government agencies like the Department of Trade and Industry to finance projects, such as community stores and kits for meat processing.

For infrastructure projects such as housing, roads, bridges, and water systems, the province is coordinating with concerned national government agencies.

“Efforts of the national government and the efforts in the local level are expected to tie the times with the least amount of resistance, dislocation, and unrest,” Loreto said.

He said the provincial government will reveal more details about the plan in the next few weeks. (PNA)
