The “Limpyo Dalanun” program of the Iloilo provincial government will augment the ongoing road clearing program of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr, in a press conference on Thursday, said the province will be adding several components, such as cleanup of canals, drainage, and cross drains.

“The Limpyo Dalanun is the adoption of the DILG memorandum on road clearing, which is ongoing right now,” he said, adding he is working on the Executive Order (EO) for the official kickoff of the activity on December 11, 2020.

He said that they still have to add more to the EO as what came out of his convergence meeting with concerned agencies on Nov. 18.

“The Limpyo Dalanun is under Limpyo Iloilo. It is a component of Limpyo Iloilo that will focus on cleaning the roads,” he said, adding that it is different when there are no plastics that can be seen scattering along national highways, provincial and down to barangay roads.

The program is a convergence of local government units (LGUs) and national government agencies (NGAs).

The LGUs will task residents whose homes are situated near the road to clean the portion of the road in front of their houses.

The initiative will also echo the regulation of the Land Transportation Office(LTO) that prohibits eating and unnecessary conversation while inside moving vehicles, Defensor said.

The governor added that such will not only prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) but will also lessen garbage being thrown out of the vehicles.

Garbage bins inside public utility vehicles (PUV) will likewise be strictly implemented.

Defensor said that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will be asked to do an aggressive cleanup in national highways.

The provincial government will also augment by putting up a “Bantay Dalan” team that will regularly inspect to ensure sustained cleanliness of the streets.

Defensor added that he will be calling for another convergence meeting before the December 11 kickoff. (PNA)
