Well-loved Canadian-American host Alex Trebek has passed away on Sunday, the official “Jeopardy!” Twitter account announced.

In March 2019, the “Jeopardy!” presenter broke the news that his pancreatic cancer has advanced to Stage 4. However, that did not convince him to stop bringing entertainment among viewers across the world as he pushed through with regular production until the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 80-year-old star, who had just celebrated his birthday on July 22, won the hearts of local and international viewers due to his wit and humor.

Production company Sony Pictures expressed its sadness on Twitter: “For 37 amazing years, Alex Trebek was that comforting voice, that moment of escape and entertainment at the end of a long, hard day for millions of people around the world.”

Trebek had shown his extreme dedication to work, shooting up to two weeks volume of content or 10 episodes in just 2 days. After suffering from a heart attack in 2007, he was able to resume production in just a month.

“Jeopardy!” is an American trivia game show that requires the contestants to answer in question form instead of the traditional straightforward manner. Throughout Trebek’s run since 1984, he was awarded five Emmy Awards and stars on the Hollywood and the Canadian walks of fame.
