The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) has already become a part of the Filipino holiday tradition. Annually, long queues could be seen in various mall movie theatres which makes the said festival a success in terms of numbers among the Filipinos. However, due to the COVIDD-19 pandemic and the health protocols that are being implemented, this tradition makes a shift into streaming as the 46th MMFF goes online this 2020.

In a Facebook post by MMFF Committee Spokesperson Noel Ferrer, it was announced that the festival will partner with a world streaming service, that is still unnamed, to make all of the entries accessible to its viewers’ digital devices. He added how online distribution makes it easier for more Filipinos to enjoy films and that Metro Manila Mayors have expressed their approval towards the safety of the said plan.

To accommodate more entries, production teams were given considerations due to the struggles in filming these days. The deadline for submission is extended from October 30 to November 15.

So far, the approved entries are as follows: “Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan,” “Magikland,” “The Super Praybeyt Benjamin,” and “The Exorcism of My Siszums”.

More details, including the release dates and the streaming partner, have yet to be disclosed.
