The road concreting project leading to the remote village of Anislagan in Calubian, Leyte will start this month, Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla confirmed on Thursday.

The governor made the announcement in a meeting with local officials here after a social media post about the ordeal of teachers assigned in Anislagan went viral last week. The video shows some teachers walking barefoot on a muddy road to deliver learning modules.

Petilla said the provincial government has allocated PHP20 million for the road concreting to the village, six kilometers away from the town center.

The budget is just an initial allocation since they are still waiting for the release of the more than PHP200-million outlay requested from the Office of the President. The project intends to build a concrete road connecting the remote villages of Anislagan, Casiungan, Enage, Jubay, Limite, and of Daja Daku and Taglawigan in Calubian town.

“Once the project is finished, teachers would no longer have to walk to the village while the access of residents to neighboring villages in other towns will be more efficient,” Petilla said.

The road network needs a bigger amount because there are areas that still need road opening, he said.

The road project to be funded by the Department of Public Works and Highways will not only solve the accessibility problem but also address insurgency in the area.

Petilla said Anislagan and neighboring villages are among areas in Leyte that are identified to have previously been affected by the insurgency. (PNA)
