Tropical Storm Leon, which is now enhancing the southwest monsoon (habagat), will cause scattered rains over most parts of the archipelago, a weather specialist said Wednesday afternoon.

“Expect moderate with at times heavy rains tonight, said Chris Perez of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Perez added that Leon is now far from the landmass, and no tropical cyclone wind signal was hoisted on any part of the country.

Scattered to widespread rain showers, thunderstorms will prevail over the Mindoro provinces, Marinduque, Romblon, Iloilo, Antique, and Aklan.

Scattered rain showers will also be experienced over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, the Bicol Region, Calabarzon, Mindanao, the rest of the Visayas, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet, Pangasinan, and La Union.

The rest of Luzon will have fair weather, with isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms, according to Perez.

Leon was last tracked 405 kilometers west-northwest of Coron, Palawan, moving westward at 15 kph.

It has maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.

It is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday.

Moderate to strong winds, moderate to rough seas will prevail over Luzon and the western section of Visayas.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA said. (PNA)
