The city government on Monday recorded a new confirmed case of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), two weeks after having no case of the virus.

In a statement, the City Information Office (CIO) said the patient is a 42-year-old male, resident of Barangay Mamarlao, who was working in Las Piñas City.

“The patient had close contact with a confirmed Covid-19 patient while he was working in Las Piñas City,” it said.

It added that due to the limited Covid-19 beds and some issues among co-workers, the patient was transferred from Las Piñas City to the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) here on Aug. 16.

From PPH, the patient is now under the care of the local government unit (LGU) and currently admitted in the isolation facility of the city, the CIO said.

The patient has no identified close contacts in the city, it added.

On July 3, the patient got a negative rapid test result. On July 30, the company conducted another testing, which turned out positive and he started to isolate himself.

The patient was subjected to reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing on Aug. 7. His result came out positive on Aug. 11, although he is asymptomatic.

As of August 17, the city has a total of 16 confirmed Covid-19 cases. (PNA)
